Formula Two driver Kazim Vasiliauskas will compete in two championships in 2009, as the Lithuanian has confirmed his participation in the UK-based Formula Palmer Audi series.
The 18-year-old will become the first Lithuanian driver ever to compete in an international single seater series when he begins his Formula Two campaign at Valencia in May, and he sees FPA as a good opportunity to gain more experience before stepping into F2: "I do not have as much experience as some of the other drivers in Formula Two," said Vasiliauskas. "This is one of the main reasons why I have decided to race in FPA also, but there are many similarities between the two championships. The way in which things are run by the MotorSport Vision team is very similar to F2 and of course the 'boost' aspect of the racing is very important for me to learn."
Vasiliauskas won multiple karting championships in his home country before enjoying a successful season on the international karting stage in 2007. After graduating to car racing in 2008, Kazim contested ten Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup races. He also competed in eight Formula Renault 2.0 Italy races, achieving a season's best fifth position at the Hungaroring.
He will now contest the full FPA season alongside his F2 commitments and the youngster is keen to learn: "I do not want to set any targets this year," he concluded. "Of course I would like to win but I am here to improve and this will hopefully benefit my season in both Formula Palmer Audi and F2."
